Biometric Finger Scanning

Sweetwater County School District #1 utilizes the M2SYS Biometric Finger Scanning Technology.  This technology is used in processing students through our Breakfast and Lunch lines in the school cafeteria.For further information on the system, please feel free to download the following two pdf documents provided by our vendor.

 

FAQS about our Biometrics Program.

Q: Do you store my student's finger image?

A: No, we do not store the image of the finger and our software has no capability to store the finger image.

Q: If you don't store the finger image, how does the software associate the student's lunch number to their finger image?

A: The system will scan the finger image and assign it a number through a set of algorithms.  The system calls this an identity template.  However, it is nothing more than a long number in the form of ones and zeros.  Please keep in mind the system does not and cannot store the finger image.

Q: Who has access to my student's finger image?

A: No one, as we do not store the image of the student's finger.  All of our system are password protected and the data within the Horizon system in encrypted to prevent security breaches.

Q: Can you re-create my student's finger image from his or her lunch number?

A: No, the number that is stored is meaningless.  It is simply a number tied to a student's name and lunch account.

Q: What do you do to protect the data your keep on the student's

A: All of our system in Sweetwater #1 are password protected and the data within the Horizon system is the encrypted to prevent unauthorized access.
